I am Margaret Frood, the researcher behind DiscoverYourFamilyHistory.com.

In common with many genealogists I started out by researching my own family history; I have always been curious about the lives of others, intrigued by snippets and fragments of a story, and thrilled by every aspect of the pursuit. In recent years I have spent so much time researching for others—relatives, friends, associates—or mentoring them in their research, that I am now a professional researcher.

I have always been curious about the history of the places in which I have lived and worked; I believe it is not possible to fully understand our ancestors and their lives without an awareness of the community and place in which they lived. In my research I endeavour to convey a sense of place and people’s lives, as, for example, in the research I do into those commemorated on a number of local War Memorials.

My professional background has been in education, predominantly in lecturing, teaching, coaching and mentoring. After some 15 years of personal research, I became a member of the Society of Genealogists in 1989; I am currently engaged in post-graduate research in Family and Local History.

I regularly attend conferences, courses, seminars and workshops, and tutor and coach two groups of keen family historians. I maintain several blogs related to the key themes in my research while continuing to produce and provide research resources for my family history classes and clients.
